If you're new to farm toys or toy tractor collecting there are some definitions that companies like Ertl use to differentiate their replicas. For example, "Special Edition" refers to replicas that are produced to commemorate a special event such as a dealer event or new tractor being introduced. Special Edition tractors will often have a decal that denotes the event being celebrated. This is similar to "Limited Edition" farm toy replicas which will also have a decal or the words "Limited Edition" on the toy or the package. They may also say a number like 1 out of 1,000 to show the the number produced and the number of the replica. Limited Editions can be highly sought after by collectors depending on the type, rarity and subject matter such as the commemoration of an important event.
Collectors not only collect Special, Custom and Limited Editions they also collect "Collectors Editions" too. Collector Editions are per-ordered and are sometimes quite a bit different from the base "shelf" model. For example, they may have different paint, decals and unique features such as a lever, three point hitch or die-cast rims.
